Virtual Community Learning Session:
The tide turning in Mainstream Media & The Power of our Collective Voice

Picture
Join Muslimahs in Policy for another community learning session with Malak Silmi. Malak is a Palestinian writer based in California. She is currently obtaining her master's in creative writing at UC Davis, but prior to that she worked as a journalist at multiple newsrooms in Michigan and Texas. She mainly covered politics, elections and local government and freelanced for outlets including In These Times magazine and Al Jazeera. She also runs a Substack titled, Sour Oranges.

Alongside Malak, we will create a space to take a collective breath after two years of intensive dissonance in the media on the oppression faced by the Palestinian people in Gaza and beyond. Join us to learn, to engage, to reflect and take a breath.

The conversation will be moderated by our Co-Director of Development, Hauwa Abbas.

ISNA 2023 : Powerful Civic Positioning for American Muslims
Sunday, September 3rd at 3:45PM in Chicago, IL

We are honored to have been invited by ISNA to moderate a panel created by the Muslim Civic Coalition.

Join a conversation on the civic and political power of the American Muslim young adults. Most of us know the American Muslim community is diverse – we include every race and many ethnicities across the globe. But do we know that the American Muslim community is the youngest faith group? The Illinois Muslims Report, recently released in the state hosting the ISNA 2023, reveals that 50% of Muslims are under the age of 35. That is decades of current and future voters, public officials, and policy makers. One of the opportunities of having the youngest faith community is our civic and political power.
